Simone Biles played the tune of Tokyo Drift in the backdrop of her gymnastics sequence at the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday
Although its only been two days since the Tokyo Olympics have gotten underway, we have already been indulged in a slew of sumptuous action. From new medal winners, records being scripted to worldclass athletes revelling us is enthralling bits of sporting developments, the Tokyo Olympics are fully living upto the colossal expectations accorded on their head.
When the gymnastics event at the games got underway on Sunday with the women’s qualification round, one player who was awaited by everyone was Team USA’s Simone Biles. The four time Olympic champion was envisaged to light up the games during the qualifying round.
While she was uncharacteristically off her game today, Simone Biles still came up with a sturdy performance. While USA didn’t lead after the qualifying round with ROC in first place, Simone Biles provide a resplendent moment.

Stepping out for her first sequence, Simone Biles played Tokyo Drift from Fast and Furious in the backdrop. It was a testament to the host city, a tune which left the world intrigued.

Apart from that moment though, Team USA were largely listless during the qualifying round. Errors from Biles and the remainder of the contingent saw the country for the first time since Biles has been a part of the unit at the Olympics not finish in first place.

ROC under the tutelage of 2019 world all-round bronze medallist Angelina Melnikova ended up with the top score as the capitalised on USA’s catapulting display. They came up with a total tally of 171.629 as compared to USA’s 170.562 whilst China took third place with 166.863.
Biles meanwhile despite her hard landings and deductions ended up earning a total score of 57.731. Team USA’s Suni Lee was at second with 57.166, while Melnikova came third at 57.132 as things stand.
Biles managed to get her house in order in the final routine as he performed one of her cleanest routines of the year. However she ended up full-twisting the double back dismount but still managed to make it into the final round owing to the difficulty of her routine.
