Beau Biden was the oldest son of Jill and Joe Biden who passed away in 2015 aged just 44-years-old.
Biden’s Speech
The President was speaking while visiting near Vail, Colorado. He was speaking about Camp Hale’s role in the training of the 10th Mountain Division ahead of their part in World War.
He said:
American soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division scaled that 1800-foot cliff, at night, caught the Germans by surprise, captured key positions, and broke through the Germans’ defensive line at a pivotal point in the war.
However, the Washington Examiner reported that the President then went on to use his son Beau, for reference, saying he ‘lost his life in Iraq’.
He said:
Just imagine — I mean it sincerely — I say this as a father of a man who won the Bronze Star, the conspicuous service medal, and lost his life in Iraq. Imagine the courage, the daring, and the genuine sacrifice — genuine sacrifice they all made.
This came right after Biden previously spoke about a possible link between exposure to toxic burn pits and cancers, in an interview with Judy Woodruff in 2018.
Biden signed into law a bill that expands medical benefits for veterans exposed to toxins from burning pits of trash. Which is something that his son Beau would’ve been exposed to when he was deployed according to the NY Times.
Beau Biden Cause Of Death
Beau Biden, who was the President’s eldest son, served as a reservist in the Delaware Army National Guard. For his service in Iraq, the military awarded Beau with a Bronze Star.
He was first deployed in 2009 serving as a major at Camp Victory in Baghdad and Balad Air Force Base. The place is located 50 miles north of the Iraqi capital.
In 2013, Beau was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, the most common form of brain cancer. Following the diagnosis, he underwent radiation and chemotherapy treatments.
However, in May 2015, the treatments failed, and the President’s son passed away after a long battle against cancer. He was only 46-years-old.
