BCCI’s 2 plans for the conduct of WIPL
The BCCI’s proposed plan involves a total of 22 matches, with each squad comprising 18 players with a maximum of six from overseas and o more than five overseas players can feature in a playing XI, with four from Full Member countries and one from an Associate nation.
As per the plan, which the BCCI sent on Thursday to state associations, each team will play the others twice during the league phase (20 matches), with the league topper heading straight to the final. The second finalist will be decided via an Eliminator between the second and third-ranked teams from the league phase. The BCCI is yet to finalise the schedule of the WIPL, but it will be finished before the men’s IPL begins, which is likely to be at the end of March.
To organize a tournament like IPL BCCI should have to ponder a lot of things including venues, franchises, sponsors, and more.
Plan 1 of BCCI comprises selling the 5 franchises to the 6 zones of the country. Pune/Rajkot (West Zone), Indore, Raipur, Nagpur (Central), Ranchi/Cuttack(East), Kochi/Vishakapatnam(South), Dharamshala/Jammu(North Zone), Guwahati(North East). If BCCI goes with this plan then the tournament will be played in Home and Away format just like the Men’s IPL.
The 2nd plan of BCCI is to fix 6 neutral venues for the tournament. Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai are the 6 cities that can host the WIPL 2023.
The possibilities are of Plan 2 as the conduction of WIPL will be smooth in the neutral venues.
