The DJ died at the age of 97. The tragic news of his demise was confirmed by a spokesperson of the disco jockey’s production company.
In a report of The Guardian, the outlet stated that a spokesperson of the company revealed that Art passed away on Friday, October 7th after catching pneumonia.
His radio show, The Art Laboe Connection, was quite famous. He is also credited for helping to end segregation in south California. Art Laboe had been twice married and also divorced from both. His net worth stood at $5 million.
He was also known for his in-person shows, which attracted people of all races and attendees would often dance to his rock and roll tunes.
As per a report by The Guardian, the legendary DJ was born Arthur Egnoian in Salt Lake City to an Armenian American family in 1925. He grew up during the great depression in a single mother household.

When he was a kid, he used to listen to the radio. Later, he moved to California where he attended Stanford University.
During World War II, the musician served in the US Navy. After returning from war, he pursued a career in radio and landed the role of radio announcer at KSAN in San Francisco.
Soon enough, he became a widely known host and DJ. He was among one of the rare hosts who interviewed the King of Rock, Elvis Presley.
He is also credited for coining the phrase “oldies, but goodies.” According to him the phrase means something that is old but can still be cherished.
In 1958, Art released his famous album Oldies But Goodies: Vol 1.
After learning the news of Art’s demise, many fans took to Twitter to mourn the iconic DJ’s passing.
One of Art’s fans penned down his experience from the DJ’s concert as he wrote, “Wow RIP Art Laboe. His last concert was on my mom’s bday on Saturday. Forever a legend in the Chicano/a community.”
Another fan wrote, “The Art Laboe Concerts were always the best. Listening to oldies will always bring back your memory. Rest Easy Art Laboe.”
A third one expressed, “One of my first concerts was an Art Laboe show. RIP to a legend!”
