Cristiano Ronaldo sister Katia Aveiro decided to speak out in her Instagram story against Portuguese fans following their harsh criticisms against Ronaldo playing for the national team.
Recently, Cristiano Ronaldo has come under a lot of pressure concerning his role in the Portuguese national team.

Ronaldo is already 37-years-old and the upcoming Qatar World Cup will most probably be his last and final World Cup.
However, it looks like his place in the national side is under contention. The football icon has been the subject of criticism from both the Portuguese supporters and media.
Ronaldo Facing Harsh Criticism In Portugal
A recent example of the Portuguese Media’s view against Ronaldo was seen ahead of the Selecao’s UEFA Nations League clash with Spain earlier this week. Portuguese news outlet A Bola dedicated their back page to opining that Ronaldo should be dropped from the team.
Their cutting headline stated “Less Ronaldo, more Portugal,”. It was followed up by a fan poll which saw 57% of voters agreeing that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner shouldn’t start against La Rojas.
In the end, Fernando Santos did start Ronaldo but he ended up enduring something of a difficult night.
Ronaldo was by no means terrible in the match but his performance was not at par with someone like him.
Moreover, Spain won 1-0 in the match against Portugal cementing their spot in the Nations League finals. This further added to the controversy surrounding Ronaldo’s starting place.
Is It Fair For Ronaldo To Be Facing Such Criticism?
Ronaldo definitely seems to be in a tough spot with his recent form, but is it fair to judge him solely on that?
The current situation around his performances has led to much debate on whether or not Ronaldo should be playing a key role for the Selecao.
However, for each supporter declaring speaking against Ronaldo’s spot in the starting 11 there is a diehard fan who is strongly it.
It has become a difficult issue, as he isn’t just any other player or any other captain for that fact. Some supporters forget that Ronaldo is the highest international goalscorer in men’s football history.
Not only that, he is the only Portuguese captain to lead his national side to their first ever piece of major silverware at Euro 2016.
Ronaldo’s Sister Fires Back On Instagram
Amidst all the tension, Cristiano Ronaldo’s very own sister – Katia Aveiro – has expressed her thoughts by firing back against fans on her Instagram story.
Ronaldo’s sister aimed her backlash against Portugal on her Instagram story by quoting a post she found on social media:
It is necessary to give a hand to those who have always given theirs to Portugal.
But the Portuguese are sick, petty, soulless, stupid, ungrateful and forever ungrateful. This guy who’s sitting, he’s on his knees… There’s no one to give him a hand.
It is cruel. And it was already so much, but so much that he gave and gives. The one sitting is called Cristiano Ronaldo and he is just the best player in the world.
She further added an addendum saying:
He has his family and those who love him by his side. They will always be by his side, no matter what.
But the current times don’t surprise me at all. The Portuguese spit on the plate they eat [from], it has always been that way. That’s why when someone appears from the ashes and changes mentalities, it bothers… With you always, my king. Calm down.
So What Is The Correct Choice Here?
Aviero’s review of Portugal’s fans did indeed draw a clear picture of a different view of the situation. And while, the idea of dropping off Ronaldo from the national side might feel insane once fans recollect all of his past achievements, there’s a much broader question at play here.
Fans are not blatantly stating that Ronaldo is not a good player anymore but his age and style of play have become an issue. Making fans wonder whether his presence in the starting XI helps the team function at their best ability.
The theory is that maybe starting a player like Joao Felix in place of Ronaldo might not mean the team has the best possible 11 players, but that it may have the best possible team unit.
So, the issue around Ronaldo goes much deeper than what it seems on the surface.
