Playing Trombone Champ
This rhythm video game is very unique. The ability to freely play notes at any moment comes with a penalty for incorrect notes played. The gameplay consists of a scrolling track with a series of notes to strike, just as most games of the same genre. To match the notes and achieve the highest possible score, players must move the cursor up and down. Imagine Guitar Hero turned on its side, without any guitars, and with a slider in place of the buttons.
Players must use a keyboard and mouse or a controller because there isn’t a Trombone peripheral (USB controllers are on the way, though!), even though the developers have optimised the gameplay for the keyboard and mouse. To adjust the pitch and location of a note in-game, players simply press a key on the keyboard to sound it. It’s similar to having a Theremin, but players have to interact with objects.
