2022 Sinquefield Cup Final Results, Standings, Nail-biting Race Decided, And Winner
On Sunday in Saint Louis, the 2022 Sinquefield Cup came to an end after nine exciting rounds of play and much surrounding commotion. The champion of this year’s Sinquefield Cup was decided by a play-off between Alireza Firouzja and Ian Nepomniachtchi after round nine’s regulation games produced four draws.
Nepomniacthchi pressed throughout the first game, which ended in a draw, but he made a mistake straight after the opening in the second game, costing him a piece. The Candidates winner continued for a little bit longer, but the outcome was always certain, giving Firouzja a double victory in the Sinquefield Cup and the Grand Chess Tour.
