The $750k Daihatsu Japan Open 2022 badminton competition was held from August 30 to September 4 at the Maruzen Intec Arena in Osaka, Japan. In the tournament, Japanese ace Akane Yamaguchi won women’s singles event with ease while Kenta Nishimoto won men’s singles category to make home crowd proud and overjoyed.

On Sunday, hosts Japan won both of the singles finals of the 2022 Japan Open badminton tournament in Osaka as world champion Yamaguchi Akane won the women’s final for the second consecutive week, and 28-year-old Nishimoto Kenta won the men’s final for the first time in his career. Yamaguchi took no chances against third-seeded An Se Young, winning 21-9, 21-15 in 38 minutes, when four of the five finals on the day easily lasted over an hour.

Watanabe Yuta & Higashino Arisa, the other Japanese finalist in the mixed doubles, were forced to settle for runners-up for the second consecutive week, allowing Dechapol Puavaranukroh & Sapsiree Taerattanachai to recover and triumph in three games 16-21, 23-21, 21-18. Liang Wei Keng & Wang Chang of China won their first title in the men’s doubles final in only their fifth tournament together, defeating Kim Astrup & Anders Skaarup Rasmussen of Denmark with a score of 21-18, 13-21, 21-17.

Points Award System

The BWF World Tour Super 750 competition’s point allocation was based on the BWF point distribution system. According to the rules, the victor of the singles competition received 11,000 BWF points, while the eventual runner-up each bagged 9,350 points.

Prize Money Pool Distribution

The entire prize pool for the 2022 Japan Open will be $750,000 once the prizes are distributed in compliance with BWF standards. $52,500 will be awarded from this pool to the singles category winner, while $25,500 will go to the runner-up. Shuttlers who lost in the semifinals, however, each won a prize of $10,500.
