The search for the third participant in the Super 4 stages of the Asia Cup 2022 reached its climax as Sri Lanka powered home to an incredible victory following a dramatic shift in fortunes as the lower middle order of the Blues scripted a historic turnaround with their Nagin dance video viral on Twitter
In a game they had to win, Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bowl first. Asitha Fernando, with some quick movement, dealt the first game of the night in favour of the Lankans by returning Rahman to the pavilion.

By scoring 39 runs for the second wicket, Mehidy Hasan and Shakib were able to guide the boat on a safe route. By eliminating Mehidy Hasan, RCB all-arounder Wanindu Hasaranga delivered the lions their second defeat of the evening. Karunaratne delivered a further significant blow by cheaply eliminating Mushfiqur.
Mahesh Theeksana made several rapid strikes to quickly drive Bangladesh’s captain back, destabilising the foundation of Bangladesh’s attack. Despite Sri Lanka’s early violations, Bangladesh prevailed because of some excellent striking from Afif and Mosaddek Hossain and a brilliant knock by Mahmudullah. At the midway point, the Tigers were in almost certain trouble, but a late blitzkrieg lifted them to 183.
Srilanka too started strong.
Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis hauled out the heavy equipment early in the innings, giving Sri Lanka a strong start. Nissanka sadly moved on to Ebadot Hossain, leaving the opening couple alone. Nissanka’s demise set off a collapse that resulted in the swift resignations of Asalanka, Gunathilaka, and Rajapaksa.
For a while, Mendis and Shanaka turned the gears to get Sri Lanka to 131 before the latter succumbed. Hasaranga made a fairly small overall contribution, but when he left, Shanaka emerged as a giant and took the lead.
