The South African umpire left the world unexpectedly after a car crash. He has umpired in the biggest stages of international cricket like the Ashes 2005, 2003, and 2007 world cup. Rudi became the full-time umpire of ICC in 1997. He left international cricket in 2010 but still later on Officiated domestic games of South Africa. His umpiring outstanding umpiring skills saw him standing in more than 100 test matches. Only Steve Bucknor and Aleem Dar have done it before.

He was a golf enthusiast he used often to go out for golfing weekends with his friends. On the 9th of august, he was driving the car when they were returning back home a big vehicle struck his car and all the 4 along with Rudi inside the car died on the spot.
