One of the sports taking place at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, is badminton. The National Exhibition Centre in Solihull will host the mixed team badminton sport for the 2022 Commonwealth Games from July 29 through August 2. On 2nd August, the final of the mixed team badminton event will take place at the aforementioned venue, which will pit reigning champions India against Malaysia.

2022 Commonwealth Games Mixed Team Badminton Semi-final Results, India vs Malaysia Final Schedule, Groups & Standings

In their matchup against Singapore’s Yong Kai Terry Hee & Andy Jun Liang Kwek, Indian men’s doubles duo of Chirag-Satwik produced India’s first victory in the last-four tie. Indian duo of Chirag & Satwik won the match in straight sets with a score of 21-11, 21-12.

In the second match, easily defeating Jia Min Yeo 21-11, 21-12 in the subsequent match, PV Sindhu prevailed. PV Sindhu, a former world champion and two-time Olympic medalist, gave Yeo the runaround on the front court with her deft and subtle direction changes before putting the game away with her signature cross-court smashes.

The most eagerly anticipated match of the tie was the third one, which matched world champion Loh Kean Yew and bronze medalist Lakshya Sen, two young players who are considered to be the future of badminton. The additional spice came from the fact that Singapore needed to win in order to remain alive while India needed to win to secure a medal. Lakshya Sen ultimately defeated Loh Kean Yew 21-18, 21-15 to secure India another medal in the mixed team competition at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
