Eddie Alvarez signed up with the Singapore promotion ONE Championship in late 2018 owing to the salary he was offerd. Let’s take a look at how he’s faired so far
A four-time Lightweight World Champion, Eddie Alvarez is the only man in history to have claimed World Titles in both of North America’s leading promotions. He’s a former Bellator MMA, UFC champion, and one of the most well-respected MMA athletes around the world.
The former champion has even faced the “Notorious” Conor McGregor back when the Irishman was on his meteoric rise. And now, The Underground King has been competing within the premier Asian promotion ONE Championship.
Eddie Alvarez ONE Championship Payout And Salary
On October 15, 2018, ONE Championship announced that Alvarez had signed with them. He was set to make his promotional debut in the Singapore MMA promotion some time in early 2019 as part of their Lightweight division. According to him, his decision to switch from UFC to ONE FC wasn’t too difficult, given the eight-figure deal the latter guaranteed him. In ONE FC, he felt much more like a healthy partner for the promotion rather than a mere contracted fighter he used to do for UFC.
“One made me a partner in their promotion. It was more of a partnership than, ‘Hey, come on as a fighter. Here’s your money to fight,’ and that’s it,” Alvarez told ESPN. While him and his management team did meet up with UFC to resume their contract, Alvarez took a chance and decided to listen to offers from other MMA organizations. And he doesn’t regret a thing.
This move of his not only satiated his curiosity but now also appears to pay the dividends it promised. He didn’t say how many fights he had signed for but the total amount he would make certainly exceeded all of his previous numbers. The Underground King believes that if one really wants to make money in this sport and know their worth, they have to become a free agent. There’s no other option.
Eddie last competed against Rae Yoon Ok who defeated him at the ONE on TNT 4 show.
