Football fans unite! While you may have seen your team’s home ground a million times, it may pay to take a trip and travel to some other unique stadiums in the world.
There’s no harm in going wild for a team you don’t even known in a place you’ve never been!
Surprisingly, these football stadiums – with all their bizarreness – have nothing on other insane entertainment venues such as casino resorts, we ain’t gonna lie! With that said, you’re still going to be doing a couple of double takes when reading the below list.
Keep in mind that some of these stadiums are simply for large or vanity matches, and some may not even play your favorite type of football. Always look and see what events are on there in advance before you book yourself a trip away!
1.Camp Nou, Barcelona
The Spanish don’t mess about with their football – or their stadiums. Camp Nou is one of the most well-known stadiums in Europe for its electric atmosphere and crowd-centric design. When you’re witnessing a game, the fanning of the seats means you get to witness not only the players but the full crowd in full effect.
2. Pancho Arena, Hungary
The Pancho Arena in Hungry is a 10/10 knock out when it comes to the sheer awe of the design inside the area. Looking not unlike a cathedral, there is perhaps no other stadium so unique in the world, with its gorgeous timber features. Who cares if the game is going terribly when you have such amazing surrounds to keep you entertained?
3. Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australia
While the name says it’s a cricket stadium, what’s actually played here is Australian Rules Football – what boils down to as a bastardization of American football and soccer. The stadium capacity stands at over 100,000 and has four seating levels, and is a sell-out during large games. The people of Melbourne even have a national holiday for their final match of the season.
4. Stade Louis II, Mónaco
More like a palace from the outlook than a football stadium, the Stade Louis II stands proud right in the middle of Monaco. Located right next to the ocean, and featuring archways that seem to signal to the gods, if you’re visiting Monaco while a game is playing you might even want to skip the casinos and head here instead.
5. Braga Stadium, Portugal
If you’re looking for real off-the-wall design, then Braga Stadium in Portugal has you covered. The stands look like something out of a sci-fi movie, with just two sides to the pitch rather than a whole enclosed space. Since it was literally built in a quarry, it’s certainly a unique experience to behold.
6. Amazonia Arena, Brazil
Brazil’s football culture is wild. As is the fact that they built an amazing football stadium in a small town in the center of the Amazon. Say what?! Getting to this stadium is a mission but witnessing the city and the field come alive is something else. Well worth the visit if you’re anywhere near the arena!
7. The Bird’s Nest, Beijing
You wouldn’t think that Beijing would have a super fancy football stadium smack bang in the city, due to their interest in other sports, however the Bird’s Nest outdoes itself and has been impressing fans from all over the world since its debut in 2008. Structured literally to look like a neat bird’s nest, the stadium is equally impressive from the inside as it is from the outside.
8. Olympiastadion, Munich
If we’re talking about aesthetically pleasing stadiums, we’d be remiss not to add Olympiastadium in Munich to our list. Even though the stadium was built specifically for the 1972 Olympics, the sheer gorgeousness of the structure has stood the test of time. It’s a revolutionary masterpiece in architecture and continues to wow audiences.
9. Azteca Stadium, Mexico City
Despite closing this year for remodeling, the Azteca Stadium is one of the most impressive football stadiums in the world. Otherwise known as ‘Estadio Azteca’, it’s also one of the most famous, too. With a crowd capacity of almost 90,000, when it’s a full house the place is really rocking.
10. Rungrado 1st of May Stadium, North Korea
While you’re probably not going to get the chance to visit this stadium in particular, there’s no denying the design of North Korea’s Rungrado 1st of May Stadium is visually stunning – at least from the outside. Who plays there? Who knows?
