Gujarat Police have initiated legal proceedings against a female entrepreneur accused of assaulting a 21-year-old Dalit man who had requested his salary for two weeks of work at her company.

Allegedly, the businesswoman, identified as Vibhuti Patel, demanded an apology from the man, insisting that he hold her footwear in his mouth.

FIR Filed Against Patel & Others

The Morbi City ‘A’ division police filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Vibhuti Patel, her brother Om Patel, manager Parikshit, and at least six others based on the victim’s complaint.

Vibhuti Patel, the owner of Raniba Industries Pvt Ltd, employed the victim in early October with a monthly salary of Rs 12,000. Unexpectedly terminated on October 18, the victim, seeking his salary, faced assault when he, accompanied by his brother and neighbor, visited Patel’s office.

FIR Details

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Pratipalsinh Zala, the victim was physically assaulted, slapped, and dragged to the commercial complex’s terrace.

The FIR detailed that Vibhuti Patel and her accomplices beat him with belts, kicked and punched him, compelling him to hold her footwear in his mouth while apologizing for his salary request.

The victim was also threatened with harm if seen in the Ravapar Crossroad area again. The assailants recorded a video coercing the victim to admit to attempting extortion, further exploiting the situation.

Following the incident, the Dalit man sought medical attention at Morbi civil hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

The accused, including Vibhuti Patel, Om Patel, Parikshit Patel, and unidentified individuals, face charges of assault, criminal intimidation, rioting, and offenses under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Police Investigation

Pratipalsinh Zala, Deputy Superintendent of Police, added that following the report, the police conducted searches at the residences of all the accused but did not locate anyone. He mentioned the formation of three separate teams to track them down.

“The charges against all the accused include assault, criminal intimidation, rioting, and offenses under the pertinent sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act,” stated Pratipalsinh Zala, who serves as the Deputy Superintendent of Police at the SC/ST Cell. The investigation is ongoing, with no arrests reported at this time.
