Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schaffele lost the Zurich Classic of New Orleans on Sunday at TPC Louisiana, know the 2022 payout
The world’s No. 4 and No. 12 players were tied for a five-shot lead heading into the final round of the two-man team tournament, having established a 54-hole scoring record of 29 under par by six strokes. With the foursomes (alternative shot) format for Sunday’s play, there was little potential for one of the chasers to make a mad dash at the finish of the round.

In the end, no one was able to close the gap completely, with Cantlay and Schauffele winning by two strokes with an even-par 72. Yes, the lead was cut to one stroke on the back nine, with runners-up Sam Burns and Billy Horschel shooting five under par over their first 11 holes. However, a birdie by Team Schuaflay on the 11th hole and a bogey by Burns/Horschel on the 17th hole gave the winning team plenty of breathing room on the 18th hole, where they finished with a par to complete a wire-to-wire triumph.
Cantlay won his sixth tour victory, the most recent being the Tour Championship last summer. Schauffele’s sixth championship, but his first since the Sentry Tournament of Champions in 2019.
The total prize pool for this week is $8.3 million, and the prize structure is comparable to that of other PGA Tour tournaments. For the first-place team, multiply the amount earned by an individual champion ($1.494 million) by the amount earned by the second-place finisher ($904,700), then divide by two to obtain the amount earned by each member on the winning team ($1.119 million). That’s how much each team earns if they keep doing it all over the field.
What’s interesting about this, as we pointed out a year ago, is that the money distribution in the event skews more toward the top of the leader board than in a regular individual event.
Here’s how much money you’d get if it was an individual event with a $8.3 million prize vs. how much you’d get if it was a team event:

To put it another way, finishing strong at the Zurich Classic pays much more.
