The three players highlight how a thriving sports culture in India can nurture whole-person development among young pupils
Shrewsbury International School India is pleased to bring on board three rising cricket stars – Shashank Singh, Rahul Batham and Kamal Tripathi – as its sports ambassadors. This alliance symbolises the school’s commitment to foster not just athletic excellence, but to bring its innovative model of whole-person education to life through a vibrant sports culture on campus.
“The thriving sports landscape that I now see in India continues to inspire many young athletes, and integrating sports into school curriculums can play a powerful role in shaping young minds. I am honoured to be the sports ambassador for Shrewsbury International School India where world-class sports infrastructure and tailored student support empower every individual to uncover and pursue their true passion,” remarks Shashank Singh.
Cricketer Kamal Tripathi who has represented Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket and has been associated with the state team of Bhopal Leopards says, “Joining the Shrewsbury family fills me with pride and purpose. I look forward to guiding promising young athletes, instilling in them the values of teamwork, discipline and resilience that have shaped my own professional journey.”
“Pursuing a career in sports has taught me to embrace challenges,” says the Under-19 Cricket World Cup player Rahul Batham.
“At Shrewsbury, I see the same spirit – where young pupils will learn to set goals, work together and celebrate each other’s successes. That is real education,” he adds.
“Rahul, Kamal and Shashank were chosen as sports ambassadors because they exemplify the Salopian virtues of Wisdom, Kindness, Courage, Integrity, Self-Mastery and Spirit, that we uphold at Shrewsbury. While they will inspire sporting excellence, the school’s comprehensive sports programme offers 20 indoor and outdoor sports – including India’s first learning facilities for indoor rowing, scuba diving and fencing along with traditional activities such as football, cricket, rugby, equestrian, swimming among many more,” remarks Oliver Russell, Deputy Head – School and Strategy Development at Shrewsbury International School India.
The school will welcome the first cohort of pupils to its 150-acre campus in Bhopal on 8th August 2025. Backed by a visionary partnership between Shrewsbury School UK and Jagran Social Welfare Society, Shrewsbury introduces the model of Whole-Person Education in India, aimed at fostering all-round excellence among young learners. Boasting extensive outdoor fields and courts alongside a state-of-the-art indoor sports complex – with shooting ranges, fencing pistes, climbing walls, gymnastics studios, squash and badminton courts – and a 40,000-square-foot aquatic centre featuring an Olympic-sized swimming pool and dedicated indoor rowing and scuba-diving facilities, Shrewsbury is poised to create a new benchmark for sports training standards in India.
