We could be in for a major drivers overhaul in the 2022 season of Formula 1 with George Russell in the fray for the second driver’s spot at Mercedes
Mercedes finds itself in a difficult situation right now with the future of their master driver Valtteri Bottas looking uncertain. The rumors in the Mercedes camp suggest that they are looking to replace the Fin with English driver George Russell who is destined to sit behind the wheels of Mercedes.
Just like Valtteri Bottas, Russell also began his Formula 1 career with Williams in 2019 as part of the juniors driver program of Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport. Since joining Williams he has never backed down from any situation and has taken his Williams beyond leaps and bounds.

George Russell hints that he is going to be the new Mercedes driver in the next season of Formula 1 after his contract expires this season stating “You Get What You Deserve” as he looks focused on the Hungarian Grand Prix. Valtteri Bottas future seems uncertain with Mercedes with the driver failing to win any race this season.
23-year-old George Russell has proved that he deserves to be the second driver of Mercedes alongside Lewis Hamilton by pushing his Williams to the Q3 every time which is often considered the slowest car on the track.
He proved what he can do in a faster car when he was selected to drive the Mercedes at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix after Lewis Hamilton tested positive for Covid. He led the Sakhir Grand Prix for most of the time eventually falling behind because of a mistake from the pit crew.
Russell has surprised every Formula 1 team with his wonderful driving ability to push his Williams all the way to the midfield. Meanwhile, veteran F1 driver Valtteri Bottas has had a poor start to this season of Formula 1 getting on the podium 6 times not winning a single race this season.
Bottas came through Williams in 2013 as part of the juniors driver programme of Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport. He was promoted as the second driver of Mercedes in 2017 replacing Nico Rosberg.
Since joining Mercedes, he has won 9 Grand Prix and has finished second twice behind teammate Lewis Hamilton in the driver’s Championship.
