Recently, Yandere Dev, also known as Alexander Mahan, was charged with allegedly grooming a minor.
On September 25, 2023, a video of a person claiming to have been groomed by the Yandere Simulator developer surfaced on TikTok. The video was initially published on YouTube; however, it has since been taken down.
The video shows specifics of Yandere Dev’s allegedly impolite encounters with a child. A few hours later, the game designer posted an apology and admission of guilt on his blog.

“When a person builds a relationship with a child, young person, or adult who is at risk, they can abuse them and manipulate them into doing things,” according to Metropolitan Police.
After the alleged grooming controversy, Yandere Dev issued an apology.

Alexander Mahan created the game Yandere Simulator to highlight the Yandere genre of Japanese popular fiction. A character in the trope develops a romantic crush on someone, but this makes them violent against others.
The game was supposed to begin development in 2014, but nothing much has been said about it since then. It goes without saying that its nearly ten-year development period has inspired a meme among its supporters. However, the game is currently popular once more, this time thanks to Yandere Dev, its creator.
The Allegations Against Alex Mahan
On September 25, 2023, information about Alex Mahan’s alleged interactions with a child was published online. The claimed conversations between the unnamed juvenile and Yandere Dev were captured on a TikTok video.
According to Gamer Braves, it allegedly revealed that the developer had started grooming her when she was 16 years old. Others claim the developer even created social media identities to engage on the minor’s behalf and offer suggestions and instructions on how to avoid charges. Since then, Yandere Dev has expressed regret to his followers on his blog for his errors but has not acknowledged grooming.
The 35-year-old did acknowledge that the girl had disclosed her age in an initial video discussion with them.
The game developer said, “One of her friends allegedly listened to the recordings of their discussions and that the friend “interpreted” the exchange as Dev attempting to “groom her” and persuade the child to “exp*se” him.”
The Yandere Simulator creator reportedly told Distractify that he employed “the same type of v*lgar jokes that [he makes] when voice chatting with [his] other friends.”
He then called his conduct, nonetheless, an “absolutely unacceptable mistake.”
The creator stated on his blog that “no grown-up should ever use adult language or make adult jokes in the presence of a minor.”
Mahan referred to him as “foolish” for believing an adult and a minor could be friends. He pointed out that there are numerous potential things that could go wrong, regardless of the adult’s initial intentions. Because of this, he asserted, situations between an adult and a minor “never even be allowed to happen in the first place.”
Meanwhile, netizens are not satisfied with the dishonest apology.
The Yandere Simulator game and its creator, Yandere Dev, are being boycotted by the gaming community. After helping the project for almost ten years, Yandere-Chan’s voice actress and voice director, Michaela Laws, announced her official resignation in a note posted on X.
One of the well-known gaming YouTubers, Bijuu Mike, has also refused to post any content related to the game. Following the uproar, additional voice actors and staff members are leaving the game.
