The ongoing season of XFL is following in the footsteps of its spring league as it is trying to do things a bit different than NFL does, know about the 2023 overtime rules
One such thing the tournament is doing is handling the overtime rule. For those who are unaware, let us tell you, the kickoff rules, scoring changes and a double forward pass are the most notable difference between the two leagues in general, however, their overtime procedure is also quite different.
The NFL’s overtime is not that different than the game itself. It comes with a timed period of 10-minute that requires teams to drive the length of the field to touchdowns.
However, NFL no longer has a true sudden-death format as that team who receives ball first can end the game with a touchdown but it can also quickly become a do or die period for either team.

🏈 Overtime rules
The XFL took inspiration from college football & the NHL here.
Each team gets 3x 2-pt conversions from the 5 yard line.
Most conversions wins. If they’re tied after 3 attempts it’s onto sudden death, alternating one attempt per team.pic.twitter.com/a7UaDpd2oD

XFL overtime rules 2023
For those who want to know more information regarding the XFL overtime rule, let us tell, it’s a vastly different than those who are employed in the NFL.
The organizers are more akin towards those rules that are used to decide games in college football and the NHL.
The XFL will use an overtime shootout to end the contest, per the league’s official rulebook. Rather than playing a full extra period, each team will be given 3 chances to notch two-point conversations from their opponent’s 5-yard line.
The team with the most point after those 3-attempts will be declared winner. If the score remained tied after these 3 attempts then the team will continue to alternate single two point conversation attempts until a winner is declared.
The main aim of this overtime procedure is to shorten the game to make it more fun and exciting. However, this will prevent regular season ties that is something that the NFL has not been able to legislate out its rulebook.
Furthermore the overtime rule of XFL are the same in the playoffs as they are in any regular season.
It means that the North and South division championship could be decided by a 2-pount shootout.
