Out of action since February 2020, Samoa Joe will make his in-ring return at NXT TakeOver 36 in an NXT Championship match against reigning champ Karrion Kross
The most recent episode of NXT confirmed Somoa Joe’s in-ring return, ever since he suffered an injury in February last year. He quit his position as General Manager William Regal’s personal enforcer. This was followed by Regal signing a contract to add Joe back to NXT’s active roster, thus making his title match against Kross at the next TakeOver event official. Read on to know more.
WWE NXT Results Live: Samoa Joe Main Roster Return Against Karrion Kross Confirmed
Ever since Joe’s return to the black-and-gold brand this year in June, Karrion Kross had been tormenting the Samoan every week. But the NXT Champion crossed a line when he attacked general manager William Regal, the previous week. That was clearly the last straw for Samoa Joe, who marched up to the ring this week and announced an impromptu contract signing.
While Kross was not present in the building, Regal was. The general manager had offered to fire Kross for his actions last week but the Samoan Submission Specialist had better plans in mind. With utter respect, he signed off as Regal’s enforcer and got a title match against Kross in return.

Samoa Joe and other superstars released by WWE earlier this year
Joe not wrestled, ever since he suffered an injured during a commercial shoot in February 2020. However, he did return to WWE Raw as a commentator in April 2020, staying there for an entire year. On 15th April 2021, WWE released the two-time United States Champion alongside a number of others. These superstars were Billie Kay, Peyton Royce, Mickie James, Chelsea Green, Tucker, Kalisto, Bo Dallas, Wesley Blake and Mojo Rawley.
Shortly thereafter, Samoa Joe negotiated a new contract and returned to the NXT brand as Regal’s enforcer on 15th June, 2021. He soon explained in a shoot interview how in spite of his new role as an on-screen authority figure, he was ‘absolutely’ working towards an in-ring return.
