Born in a small village in Iran, Vaziri’s journey from an amateur wrestler to a professional heavyweight champion is one of unwavering dedication and perseverance. He started his wrestling career in Iran during the 1970s before shifting to the American Wrestling Association (AWA).

Vaziri’s entry into the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) in 1979 marked a significant turn in his career, and he soon rose to fame, winning the inaugural edition of Battle Royal in New York City.

The Iron Sheik is remembered for his extraordinary professional wrestling career, which saw him becoming one of the WWF’s most notable stars during the 1980s. He clinched the WWF World Heavyweight Championship in 1983, and his heated rivalry with Hulk Hogan became one of the most notable feuds in wrestling history.
After his departure from the WWF in 1987 and a brief return in 1991, Sheik went on to wrestle for numerous other promotions. Also these included the World Class Championship Wrestling, UWFi in Japan, and World Championship Wrestling. His remarkable contribution to the sport was recognized in 2005 when he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, officially retiring from wrestling in 2015.
