2023 WTT Star Contender Goa day 4 winners, score, fifth day schedule, & prize money pool distribution
In the men’s singles second-round, Korean Cho Daeseong shocked World No. 1 Zhang Zhendong, and by managing to overcome some of the elite opponents, Sutirtha Mukherjee & Manika Batra have qualified for the pre-quarterfinal. Owing to these results, India’s campaign in the WTT Star Contender Goa 2023 is still alive. Through the qualification stages, Daeseong advanced to the main draw and he then eliminated China’s Fan Zhendong in the round of 32 to record his biggest career victory. After falling behind 2-0, the Korean rallied to defeat Fan by score of 7-11, 6-11, 12-10, 11-9, & 11-8 in 30 minutes.
Manika Batra & Sathiyan Gnanasekaran lost their mixed doubles quarterfinal tie against Japanese pair Miwa Harimoto & Shunsuke Togami by score of 12-10,11-6,11-6. Following their resounding victory, the Japanese duo will square off against Jia Nan Yuan & Emmanuel Lebesson. In the evening session, Manika defeated world No. 14 Adriana Diaz by score of 3-1 (11-9,11-8,5-11,11-8). Earlier in the morning session, Sutirtha, who is presently rated 146, defeated Jia Nan Yuan 3-0 (11-7,11-8,11-7).
