2023 WTT Contender Doha: men’s & Women’s singles round-of-16 and men’s & women’s doubles semi-final results
On Thursday, fans witnessed some shocking results in the women’s singles category including the elimination of second-seed Jia Nan Yuan at the hands of qualifier Choi Hyojoo. Following Thursday’s results, Fan Siqi is the only seeded player left in the competition as the eight-seed star managed to defeat Kuai Man in straight-set without much difficulty. Among other women’s singles matches of Thursday, Indian ace Manika Batra maintained her title quest alive with an easy win against Joo Cheonhui by score of 11-4, 11-9, 11-7. With this win, Manika has qualified for the quarterfinal and is scheduled to play against Choi Hyojoo with a spot in the last-four at stake.
On Thursday night’s men’s singles Round of 16 match, China’s Peng Xiang defeated experienced paddler Achanta Sharath Kamal 11-2, 11-1, 11-4. Earlier on Wednesday, Sathiyan crashed out from the tournament after losing in his round-of-32 tie and with Kamal’s loss, Indian medal hopes from the men’s singles category has disappeared into thin air.
