India will face New Zealand in the final of the inaugural World Test Championship. Both teams completed their WTC schedule and finished in the top two positions. The final of the World Test Championship will be played from 18th June to 22nd June at Southampton.
This is the first edition of the world test championship. It’s a 3-year long cycle where each team plays six opponents, three at home and three away.
Each series has between two to five games, so not every team plays an equal number of matches but instead, they play an equal number of series during the three-year cycle. The top two teams after the league stages play in the final of the title of World Test Champions.

Virat Kohli-led Team India will square off against Kane Williamson’s New Zealand in the inaugural World Test Championship final next month. The two teams qualified for the final by the virtue of finishing in the top two in the WTC points table. With 520 points, India ended up as the table-toppers.
They had a winning percentage of 72.2 and won 12 matches. India lost 4 fixtures, 2 against New Zealand Down Under in 2020. One of their matches ended in a draw.
New Zealand had a winning percentage of 70. They bagged 420 points and played 5 series. NZ won 7 matches and lost 4 fixtures. This includes a 0-3 whitewash against Australia. None of their matches ended in a draw.
India will look forward to winning this WTC final by beating NZ and want to finish this World Test Championship on a winning note. They were one of the best touring teams in this WTC and they will look forward to continuing their winning streak.
On the other hand, NZ will hope to extend its domination over India. The Black Caps have a 2-0 lead over India in the WTC. Another win here will see them take home the trophy.

Hardik Pandya is a big miss for Team India as an Indian pace all-rounder has been eliminated from the squad for the WTC final. It may be a long break for Hardik Pandya from the Test squad due to his fitness issues.
KL Rahul and Wriddhimann Saha have to go through a fitness test before they can join the squad. They need to pass a fitness test before the WTC final.
For NZ, The selectors handed a maiden call-up to Indian-origin Rachin Ravindra. He is a former U-19 all-rounder who also played for NZ A before making it to the national team.
Trent Boult is confirmed to miss the opening Test against England. He is likely to feature in the 2nd England Test and the WTC final.
