Iga Swiatek vs Ons Jabeur
Iga Swiatek extended her extraordinary final winning streak by defeating Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur in straight sets on Saturday, advancing to the third Grand Slam title of her career.
The 21-year-old Polish world number one defeated Jabeur, who was attempting to make history, 6-2, 7-6 (7/5) in 1 hour and 52 minutes at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
With this triumph, Swiatek has now won ten finals in a row. Since losing just once in her maiden WTA final in Lugano three years ago, she has never lost in a final.
Swiatek’s victory marked her second Grand Slam triumph of 2022, following her first triumph at Roland Garros in 2020. She also won the French Open in June.
Jabeur, who was attempting to become the first African woman to win a Grand Slam trophy, suffered another agonising close call with the defeat. Additionally defeated in the Wimbledon championship match in July was the 28-year-old Tunisian.

This year’s event participants have a big cash incentive. The US Open will provide competitors with prizes totaling $60 million, the largest purse in the competition’s history. This is more than last year’s total of $57.5 million. The winners of the singles event will receive $2.6 million apiece, while the winners of the doubles event will receive $680,000.
