Analysing the top-heavy favourites in the women’s doubles category at the Italian Open 2022 as the event is back on clay with its 79th edition.
WTA Italian Open 2022 Women’s Doubles Predictions, Favourites Players And Betting Odds
1. Desirae Krawczyk and Demi Schuurs
The duo of Desirae Krawczyk and Demi Schuurs reached the final recently at Madrid Open where they lost the title against Gabriela Dabrowski and Giuliana. They came past pairs like Zhang Shuai and Storm in the semifinals and Jesica Pegula and Coco Gauff in the last eight to reach the level. They also reached the final of the Stuttgart Open but we’re outlasted by Zhang Shuai and Coco Gauff.
The pair seem to be in good form reaching the final of their last two tournaments and their current form makes them slightly favourite on top.
2. Zhang Shuai and Storm Sanders
Duo Zhang Shuai and Storm were the semifinalists at the recent event they took part in, the WTA Madrid Open where they lost to Schuurs and Krawczyk. Zhang was then paired with Coco Gauff at the Stuttgart Open where she reached the final but lost to the same pair of Schuurs and Krawczyk. At Charleston Open, she advanced to the semifinals with Caroline Dolehide. Zhang also won a singles trophy this year at Lyon Open.
Quite a good advancement for the Chinese player makes her and her team favourite.
3. Sania Mirza and Lucie Hradecka
The pair reached the final of the last tournament they played in together at the Charleston Open but lost to Andreja Klepac and Magda Linette. At Miami and Qatar Open and Dubai Tennis Championships, the player from India Sania Mirza progressed to the quarterfinals with Kirsten Flipkens, and Hradecka (in both Qatar and Dubai) respectively. Sania also reached the quarterfinals in the mixed doubles category at the Australian Open with Rajeev Ram.
Meanwhile, the Czech also had some food advancements while she was not paired with Sania at some of the tournaments. She reached the quarterfinals at Indian Wells Masters and semifinals at mixed doubles.
4. Elena Rybakina and Ludmilla Samsonova
Elena Rybakina did not have a very good season this season yet but Ludmilla did manage to reach some good levels in several tournaments. She also had good results in singles where she made it to the semifinals at Stuttgart Open but lost to eventual winner Iga Swiatek. Quarterfinals at the Adelaide International 2 before losing to Madison Keys. She also reached the quarterfinals of the doubles at the Melbourne Summer Series 1.
5. Veronika Kudermetova and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova
Kudermetova the finalist at the Istanbul Open recently in singles, reached the final of the doubles at the Miami Open paired with Elise Mertens but lost the trophy to the pair of Vera Zvonareva and Laura Siegemund. She also progressed to the final of the Qatar Open and Dubai Tennis Championships with the same pair losing to Jesica Pegula and Coco Gauff, Lyudmyla Kichenok and Jelena Ostapenko respectively. At the Australian Open, they reached the semifinals. She also had good advancements in the singles. Three finals this year in doubles males her one of the favourites of the tournament in Rome, Italy.
