Iga Swiatek successfully defended her Italian Open title in Rome.
At the Italian Open, the No. 1 WTA player defeated African No. 1 Ons Jabeur to win her sixth WTA 1000 title in a row. The Tunisian was comfortably defeated by the Polish professional in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
Swiatek’s winning run has now reached 28 matches after she triumphed over Jabeur. She has already won two consecutive titles in Rome, including the Italian Open, which she successfully defended. This makes her the only player younger than Chris Evert and Gabriela Sabatini to win a second title in Rome. Jabeur was on an 11-match winning streak after winning the Madrid Open, which Swiatek had withdrawn from due to a lack of relaxation.
