Anett Kontaveit vs Bernarda Pera
Bernarda Pera, an American, defeated top-seeded Anett Kontaveit with a score of 6-2, 6-4 on Saturday to win the Hamburg European Open and claim her second victory in as many days.
The 81st-ranked Pera defeated the No. 2 player in the world, Anett Kontaveit, by saving three of the four break points she faced and taking four of the six break points she generated in Budapest last week.
Pera had lost her previous five matches, but this was her 12th straight triumph dating back to the Budapest qualifying rounds. Last Sunday’s Budapest championship final saw Serbian Aleksandra Krunic upset by the 27-year-old Pera.
Kontaveit competed in her 16th career final, her first since losing to Iga Swiatek in Doha in February. In the final matchup versus Pera, she was vying for her sixth singles championship.
Pera, though, exacted revenge on Kontaveit for the 7-5, 6-1 defeat she suffered in their lone prior encounter at Wimbledon in June.

The 2022 Hamburg European Open women’s doubles tennis championship was won by Sophie Chang and Angela Kulikov over Miyu Kato and Aldila Sutjiadi with a score of 6-3, 4-6, [10-6], in the final.
