All you need to know about the 2022 WTA Western and Southern Open, Draw, schedule and prize money of the women’s Cincinnati Open

The Western & Southern Open, which was first played on clay at the Avondale Athletic Club in 1899, has developed into one of the most important events on the tennis calendar.

Before being reinstituted for a year in 1988, the women’s tournament was not played between 1974 and 1987. From 1989 till 2003, it ceased once more. The women’s competition has been conducted every year since 2004.

Since the tournament’s name was changed to the Western & Southern Open in 2011, the men’s and women’s events have been conducted concurrently during the same week.

Venue:

The combined hardcourt competition will be held at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Cincinnati, Ohio’s Mason neighbourhood.

What’s exciting? 

The top eight seeds in the 56-player singles draw, which features world No. 1 Iga Swiatek, will receive byes into the second round. Swiatek is joined by No. 3 Paula Badosa, No. 5 Ons Jabeur, and No. 8 Garbie Muguruza in the top half of the draw. The top half of the rankings also include Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, Simona Halep, Coco Gauff, Belinda Bencic, and Simona Halep.

Along with No. 2 Anett Kontaveit, No. 4 Maria Sakkari, No. 6 Aryna Sabalenka, and No. 7 Jessica Pegula, the bottom half of the draw is headed by these players. However, four unseeded stars in the bottom half are the source of the news.

Williams will face Raducanu in the tournament’s opening match on Monday night as she competes in her final Hologic WTA Tour event before saying her final goodbye at the US Open. It will be their first encounter with one another.

Schedule 

After the qualifying rounds on August 13 and 14, the first-round matches will start on August 14 in the evening session. The semifinals, quarterfinals, and championship match are all scheduled to take place on August 19, 20, and 21, respectively.

WTA Cincinnati Open 2022 Women’s Singles And Doubles Prize Money 

The WTA’s total prize money is $2,527,250, a 19.49% increase from 2021.

The female champion will get a check for $412,000, an increase of 61.43% from 2021, in addition to 900 ranking points.

First-round losers not only endure the sting of everything being 20% more expensive than a year ago, but they also receive 5.33% less, which amounts to $11,725 in prize money, in the earlier rounds, as opposed to the later rounds, which saw a tiny pay cut.
