When explaining the situation, Anshu’s uncle, Sandeep Malik, stated that the offensive film was made about two years ago and that the people in it are now a married couple. He denounced the use of a wrestler of Anshu’s stature in such a dishonest and repugnant manner. According to the family, they anticipate prompt police action and the quick capture of the offenders.

Sandeep, as quoted by IANS, said:

“The video is of a different girl and boy and it is around two years old. And the couple shown in the video are now husband and wife. The girl is from Himachal Pradesh and the boy is from Haryana. They are also wrestlers (local level).”

He further said:

Anshu’s photo was used as a template in the video. We have demanded action against the person who did it. This is unacceptable… Anshu is a world-class wrestler yet someone is demeaning her name using fake and ugly methods. I am sure the police will crack the case soon. Our entire family is in shock right now.”

Meanwhile, Anshu Malik along with Sarita Mor, who won gold and silver medals at the World Championships, will not compete in the Asian Games 2023 since they were disqualified from the wrestling selection trials back in India.
