WR Chess Masters, which takes place in Düsseldorf, is the first privately organized mega event to take place on German territory in almost four years. From February 14 to February 27, ten of the best grandmasters will compete at the Hyatt Regency for the title.

At the WR Chess Masters, Keymer will be one of five wonder lads in the field of 10 super grandmasters along with Andrey Esipenko, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Gukesh, & Praggnanandhaa. However, these youngsters will face tough competition against the former world championship contenders like Levon Aronian, Wesley So, Anish Giri, & Krzysztof Duda. Meanwhile, Ian Nepomniachtchi will be the overwhelming favorite to win the title, considering he is the top-seeded player in Düsseldorf.

The ten players will compete in a round-robin format, playing one game each against the other. After nine rounds, the player with the most points will win the top prize of 40,000 euros. Visitors can anticipate a rapid & blitz chess play-off in case of any tie at the top. From February 14 to February 27 at the Hyatt Regency, this contest will be held. In this tournament, each game’s time limit is 120 minutes for the first 40 movements, 60 minutes for the next 20 moves, and then 15 minutes, with 30-second increments starting at move 61.

WR Chess Masters 2023 prize money pool distribution

A total of 130,000 euros will be awarded in prizes during the 2023 WR Chess Masters, with 40,000 euros going to the winner. According to how each player finishes, the remaining 90,000 euros will be divided among them.
