After drawing with Jan-Krzysztof Duda, GM Levon Aronian has held on to his sole lead with three points from four matches. German prodigy Vincent Keymer managed to withstand Gukesh’s spectacular pawn sacrifice, which forced the Indian prodigy to settle for a draw. Elsewhere, Wesley So’s aggressive play against Ian Nepomniachtchi wasn’t enough as stellar play from Nepo saw him bag his fourth consecutive draw.

In the other match of Sunday, Anish Giri had a clear advantage against Andrey Esipenko, but a small error permitted the latter to secure a draw. Meanwhile, Indian teenage prodigy Praggnanandhaa bagged a hard-fought draw against former Rapid Champion Nodirbek Abdusattorov to finish the day with 1.5/4 points. This competition will be held at the Hyatt Regency from February 14 through February 27.

Gukesh has his sights set on moving up the standings as he takes against tournament top-seed Ian Nepomniachtchi on Tuesday. Levon Aronian will take against Anish Giri in round five with the intention of extending his advantage over the other competitors.

WR Chess Masters 2023 prize money pool & standings

A total of 130,000 euros in prizes, including 40,000 for the winner, will be awarded during the 2023 WR Chess Masters. The remaining 90,000 euros will be split between the competitors according on how they perform. In the race for this prestigious title, Levon Aronian now leads with three points after four games.
