The WPL auction featured 448 players out of which the teams bought only 87 of the players.
WPL 2023 Auctions
The five Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 teams have finally assembled their squads for the tournament’s inaugural edition. The auction featured ten rounds of auction and three rounds of accelerated auction.The five teams taking part in the tournament are the Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, UP Warriors and Gujarat Giants.
The five teams bought 87 of the 448 players auctioned, and spent a total of ₹59.5 crore. Out of the 87 teams, 30 players were overseas players whereas 47 were Indian players.
Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur became the first player to be auctioned in WPL history. Mumbai Indians bought her for a price of ₹1.80 crores. Among the foreign players, England all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt was sold for an impressive ₹3.20 crores in the auction. Meanwhile, Smriti Mandhana became the most expensive player in the WPL after RCB bought her for ₹3.40.
