According to a BCCI decision, boundary lengths for Women’s Premier League 2023 matches will remain shorter than those for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 matches. Check out the reason behind it.

What is the WPL 2023 Match Boundary Length?

The BCCI decided on the maximum boundary length to guarantee high-scoring games at the DY Patil Stadium and the Brabourne Stadium.

In the two venues, DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium, the maximum boundary length for the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) would be 60 metres, five metres less than it was for the recently concluded Women’s T20 World Cup played in South Africa.

To promote high-scoring games, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) determined the boundary’s maximum length.

The boundary ropes were suitably drawn in for the inaugural match between the Gujarat Giants Women and the Mumbai Indians Women at the DY Patil Stadium.

An official said, as per a report by The Indian Express:

The BCCI has informed us to keep boundary distance for each game to a maximum of 60 metres.”

When Indian Premier League games were played in the DY Patil Stadium, Wankhede Stadium, and Brabourne Stadium last season, the boundary length was restricted to 70 metres.

The pitch at Brabourne Stadium has also been great for batting, and given the circumstances, the upcoming games may include similar run-scoring celebrations.

Women are given free admittance to the stadiums, and this has contributed significantly to the sold-out games in addition to the high-scoring ones.
