The 2022 Betfred World Snooker Championship is a professional snooker competition that will be held at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, England, from April 16 to May 2, 2022. It will be the 46th World Snooker Championship to be contested at the venue. The World Snooker Tour hosts the tournament, which is the 16th and final ranking event of the 2021–22 snooker season.

2022 World Snooker Championship Tournament Schedule, Dates, Tickets And Venue

The tournament will take place at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, England with the final is slated for Monday, May 2nd. The same venue is hosting the World Snooker Championship for the 46th consecutive year. Tickets for the fixtures can be bought here.

The tournament matches will take place in the following manner:

  • April 16- April 21: First Round Matches
  • 21st April- 25th April: Second Round Matches
  • April 26- April 27: Quarter-final Matches
  • April 28- April 30: Semi-final Matches
  • May 1- May 2: Final

Tournament Format And Rules

The best of 19 frames will be present in the first round of the main draw, the best of 25 frames in the second round and quarter-finals, and the best of 33 frames in the semi-finals. The final will be a best-of-35-frames competition played over two days.

The first round of 2022 World Snooker Championship will be contested as a best of 19 frames between April 16 and 21. In his match against Jones, defending champion Mark Selby led 8–3 after the first two frames of the second session, but Jones cut Selby’s lead to two frames at 9–7, despite Selby’s 137 century break. After Jones went in-off, Selby secured a 10–7 victory in the next frame. With this win, Selby has advanced to second round, where he will face the winner of match between Yan Bingtao and Chris Wakelin.

Ronnie O’Sullivan, the second seed, equaled Steve Davis’ record of 30 Crucible appearances by reaching the final stages of the competition every year since he was 17. He dropped the first three frames against Gilbert, but then won six straight, with breaks of 122, 64, 104, and 66, to take a 6–3 lead after the first session.

Zhao Xintong, who had already won his first two ranking championships earlier in the season, led Clarke 7–2 in the first session with two century and additional breaks of 98, 78, and 73.

Page defeated 2013 runner-up and number nine seed Barry Hawkins in the first three frames. Page stretched his advantage to 6–2, making a 102 break in the eighth frame, despite Hawkins winning two of the next three frames. Hawkins trailed by 29 points with 27 remaining on the table in the penultimate frame of the session, but he snookered Page on the green and won the frame on the black, cutting Page’s advantage to 6–3.

Prize Money Pool Distribution

The tournament winner of Turkish Masters will receive £500,000 in prize money, while the losing finalist will receive 200,000 Pounds. The net prize pool of the tournament will be 2,395,000 Pounds.

A maximum break at the Crucible will earn one £40,000, while a maximum break in the qualifying stages will earn one £10,000. These bonuses are in addition to the £15,000 top prize for the highest break.
