The tournament included a 32-player main draw, which was preceded by a 128-player qualifying tournament conducted at the English Institute of Sport from April 4 to 13, 2022, and concluded three days before the main event. The best of 19 frames was used in the first round of the main draw, the best of 25 frames in the second round and quarter-finals, and the best of 33 frames in the semi-finals. The final was a best-of-35-frames competition that lasted two days.

The third session began with Trump making his first century of the match, and he went on to win the first three frames. He missed a plant on a 45 break in the 21st frame, allowing O’Sullivan to win the frame with a 64 break. After the mid-session break, Trump won the first two games, but O’Sullivan won the 24th after Trump missed a black off the flop. In the 25th frame, Trump took advantage of a quirk to make his second century. Six of the eight frames he played were won by him, cutting O’Sullivan’s advantage to three at 14–11. It was the first time in the tournament that O’Sullivan has lost a session.

O’Sullivan led 16–11 after winning the first two frames of the fourth session with breaks of 82 and 88. The next was won by Trump, but O’Sullivan produced a 75 break to take a 17–12 lead at the halftime break. O’Sullivan made an 85 in the 31st frame to win the match 18–13 and gain a record-tying seventh world title. With this win, O’Sullivan won his 39th ranking title and 21st Triple Crown title. He surpassed Ray Reardon, who was 45 when he won his final title in 1978, as the oldest world champion in snooker history.

Prize Money Pool Distribution

As the winner of the Snooker World Championship in 2022, Ronnie O’Sullivan received a prize money of £500,000. Meanwhile, the runner-up of the tournament Judd Trump claimed £200,000.

The total prize pool of the tournament was £23,95,000 including £5,000 highest break bonus. In his second-round encounter against Jack Lisowski, Neil Robertson made a maximum break for the fifth time in his career and the 12th time at the Crucible. In his third-round qualifying match against Pang Junxu, Graeme Dott also made a maximum break.

A maximum break at the Crucible was worth £40,000, while a maximum break in the qualifying stages was worth £10,000. These bonuses were in addition to the top prize of £15,000 for the best break.
