The 2022 Betfred World Snooker Championship is a professional snooker competition that will take place at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, England, from April 16 to May 2, 2022. The competition will be the 46th World Snooker Championship to be held at the venue. The World Snooker Tour hosts the tournament, which is the 16th and final ranking event of the 2021–22 snooker season.

2022 World Snooker Championship Tournament Schedule, Dates, Tickets And Venue

The tournament is taking place at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, England with the final is slated for Monday, May 2nd. The same venue is hosting the World Snooker Championship for the 46th consecutive year. Tickets for the fixtures can be bought here.

The tournament matches will take place in the following manner:

  • 21st April- 25th April: Second Round Matches
  • April 26- April 27: Quarter-final Matches
  • April 28- April 30: Semi-final Matches
  • May 1- May 2: Final

Tournament Format And Rules

The best of 19 frames will be present in the first round of the main draw, the best of 25 frames in the second round and quarter-finals, and the best of 33 frames in the semi-finals. The final will be a best-of-35-frames competition played over two days.

The event’s second round will be contested over three sessions between April 21 and 25, with the best of 25 frames.

Williams faced his Welsh compatriot and practice partner Page in the second round opener, in which he won the first seven frames with breaks of 125, 74, 53, 50, 100, 75, 51, and 121, but Page avoided a session whitewash with a 43 clearance in the eighth frame, leaving Williams 7–1 at the break. Williams started the second session with a 110 break and then followed it up with back-to-back centuries of 117 and 127 in the 13th and 14th frames to seal a 13–3 victory. After this win, Mark Williams has advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2022 Snooker World Championship, where he will face the winner of second-round match between Mark Selby and Bingtao.

In his second-round match against Zhao, Maguire utilized a new cue and made two century and an 80-point break to take a 5–3 lead after the first session. In the second session, Maguire continued his superb play and extended his lead to 11-5. With only one session left in the tie, Maguire now needs to win two frames in order to qualify for the quarters while Zhao Will be hoping for a miraculous comeback performance.

In the second round, O’Sullivan faced Allen and dominated from the opening frame. Allen staged a comeback near the end of the second session, but O’Sullivan came back to win the 15th frame from 49 points down, and also came back from 30 points down in the 16th to finish the session with a 100 break and a 12–4 lead. This score line puts O’Sullivan one frame away from a record 20th World Championship quarter-final appearance.

Prize Money Pool Distribution

The champion of the 2022 Snooker World Championship will take home £500,000 in prize money, while the losing finalist will take home £200,000. The tournament’s total prize pool will be 2,395,000 pounds.

A maximum break at the Crucible is worth £40,000, whereas a maximum break in the qualification rounds is worth £10,000. These incentives come on top of the £15,000 top prize for the most spectacular break.
