Taylor had advanced past Peter Manley in the second round of his first competition since retiring from the sport four years ago, but was handily defeated 3-0 by Painter, a longtime opponent, on Saturday night.
After defeating Dave Prins 3-0, Robert Thornton advanced with relative ease. He will face Kevin Painter in the semi-finals.
Thornton is regarded as one of the tournament favourites, having posted a 90-plus average in all three of his bouts. Terry Jenkins and Martin Adams will compete in the other semi-final. Jenkins defeated John Walton 3-1. Meanwhile, Adams defeated American player Larry Butler 3-1.
