The 24th annual season of rugby sevens competitions for men’s national teams will take place in 2022–2023. This tournament will also serve as Olympic qualifier since, top-four nations after end of season will automatically qualify for the rugby sevens event at 2024 Paris Olympics.

The “Pool of Death” will feature hosts Hong Kong, New Zealand, Samoa, and defending series champions Australia. Fiji, the defending Olympic and World Cup champions, are the most successful men’s team at the illustrious competition and are aiming for their sixth straight victory in the Asian metropolis. The gold medalists from the 2022 Commonwealth Games, South Africa, will be optimistic about their chances given that they were paired with newly promoted newbies Uruguay.
Since the top-four teams after end of season will receive 2024 Paris Olympics qualification berth, the competition is expected to be fierce from the very beginning. Friday’s action gets underway in Hong Kong at 15:40 local time (GMT+8) as Ireland takes on Kenya. In the fourth match of the day, Fiji defends their Hong Kong championship against Japan, while Uruguay, a newcomer, faces South Africa, the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalist.
