The Cathay Pacific (HSBC Hong Kong Sevens championship) was won by Australia 20-17, ending Fiji’s domination that had seen them win the previous five championships in Hong Kong. Meanwhile, France defeated Samoa 19-17 to take home the bronze medal after a nail-biting contest.

2022-23 World Rugby Sevens Series: Hong Kong Leg Results, Winner, Scores, Medal Winners, & Other Details
Following a thrilling championship match against Fiji, Australia men’s rugby sevens team became champions of the prestigious Hong Kong Sevens for the first time in 34 years. After winning the season opener, Australia have started their World Rugby Sevens Series title defense on high-note. Earlier, Australia had to work hard to qualify for final; as they defeated Ireland 26-17 in the quarter-final before edging-out France 10-7 in the semifinal via golden point. Just before halftime in the championship game, tries from Josua Vakurinabili and Waisea Nacuqu gave Fiji a 12-0 lead, but Australia’s comeback ended the party for Fiji.
Elsewhere, France clinched bronze medal by defeating Samoa via score of 19-17 in the third-place playoff. Surprisingly, New Zealand finished 9th at Hong Kong to finish with only 8 points. The next stop of 2022-23 World Rugby Sevens Series will be at Dubai and this tournament will be played from 2nd-3rd December.
