A thrilling night of competition in Blackpool’s Winter Gardens saw Price come from behind to upset Chisnall 11-8 and advance for a third time. Price will now face De Sousa, overcame Rob Cross 11-8 and made it to the final eight for the first time. After winning ties against Daryl Gurney and Michael Smith, respectively, Noppert and Van Duijvenbode will face off in the round of eight. With an outstanding performance, Noppert defeated Gurney with a score of 11-4 and set the bar high for the rest of the field. The first 170 checkout of the competition was made by Van Duijvenbode, who defeated one of the favorites for the championship, Smith, 11-7 to keep his winning streak alive.
The first two quarterfinal matches will be played on Thursday, with a rematch of last year’s championship match between Peter Wright and Dimitri Van den Bergh taking place first and Michael van Gerwen against a revitalized Nathan Aspinall second.
