Betfred World Matchplay Tournament Format
The best of 19 legs format was used for every match in the opening round. The second round matches is using best-of-21-leg format for all ties. Thereafter, all quarterfinal contests will be best-of-31-leg affairs. A Best of 35 Legs tournament will be the semi-format, final’s which will be similar to the final’s.
2022 Betfred World Matchplay Latest Results, Day 5 Schedule, Venue, And Draw
On a scorching Tuesday night in Blackpool, Van Gerwen, a two-time World Matchplay champion, overcame Cullen in a rematch of the Cazoo Premier League final from last month after Wright had defeated Ratajski in the opening match of second round. Tuesday evening session’s opening match saw Van den Bergh overcome a slow start to defeat rookie Rowby-John Rodriguez 11-6. Van Gerwen will play Nathan Aspinall in the round of eight as the 2007 winner James Wade was defeated 9-11 by the former UK Open champion thanks to an incredible late surge.
On Wednesday night, the second round comes to an end as world number two Gerwyn Price faces off against Dave Chisnall, who has advanced to the quarterfinals five times. A mouthwatering matchup between third seed Michael Smith and Dirk van Duijvenbode is scheduled, and the 2019 winner Rob Cross will square off against former Grand Slam victor Jose De Sousa in another crucial matchup. Danny Noppert, the winner of the UK Open, will compete against Daryl Gurney, a two-time semi-finalist in Blackpool and winner of two TV championships.
