Taking the first two frames to grab an early 2-0 lead, Trump began his semi-final tie strongly. To cut his deficit to just one frame, Murphy answered with an incredible 140 break. Trump, however, reeled in a run of 85 in the fourth to lead 3-1 at the mid-session break. After the game resumed, Trump increased his lead to three by hitting a century contribution of 112, making the score 4-1. Murphy won the sixth and had the opening to win the seventh, but his miss allowed Trump to fight his way back into the frame and move one closer to victory at 5-2. Later, the Masters champion crossed the finish line with runs of 33 & 32 to clinch the eighth-frame.
Following his semi-final win, Trump has qualified for the final of 2023 World Grand Prix Snooker and is scheduled to play against Allen on Sunday over best-of-19-frames match. According to bookmakers, this final will be tough to predict with both players performing at their peak throughout recent tournaments. Despite Mark Allen leading the head-to-head record 12-11, bookmakers have placed winning odds of Trump at 4/7 & odds at 8/5 for Allen.

From the $380,000 in total rewards, the competition’s winner will get £100,000 as is traditional. Further, the competition’s runner-up will receive £40,000 in prize money. Shaun Murphy will receive $20,000 in prize money following his painful semi-final loss, but he will have to wait until the 2020 Welsh Open before winning his maiden championship.
