Michael van Gerwen achieved a statement win during his second-round tie of World Darts Championship by crushing Lewy Williams 3-0, which saw him qualify for the third-round. Meanwhile, Josh Rock kept his winning streak going against Callan Rydz after winning by score of 3-0 and has become one of the bookmaker favorite to lift the coveted title. In another match of Wednesday, Dave Chisnall won in remarkable fashion against Andrew Gilding by score of 3-1 to qualify for next round, where he will face Bunting.
Elsewhere, seasoned veteran Mervyn King withstood comeback from Danny Baggish to win 3-2 despite the latter’s best efforts. For the third year in a row, Gabriel Clemens advanced to the third round with an impressive 3-0 victory over William O’Connor. In the opening game on Wednesday at Alexandra Palace, Darius Labanauskas of Lithuania rallied from a 2-0 deficit to upset John O’Shea 3-2.
As Dirk van Duijvenbode faces off against Karel Sedlacek in the afternoon, there will be two separate sessions of second round action on Thursday. In the evening session, two-time World Champion Gary Anderson will clash against Madars Razma.
