Price, who won the Sid Waddell Trophy in 2021, lost the opening set against a strong Luke Woodhouse, but the top seed turned it on in the closing moments to ensure his advancement. By executing a 76 finish on the bull and winning with a magnificent 150 checkout in the final set, Price won six of the final seven legs to maintain his chances of winning the World Championship title. De Sousa, meanwhile, produced a stunning comeback to defeat 2010 runner-up Whitlock, making him the first World Championship competitor to win after falling behind two sets to none.

Lewy Williams narrowly missed achieving perfection in his decisive straight-sets victory over Niels Zonneveld earlier in the day. Williams dropped a dart midway through the third visit when he needed 141, but he recovered to finish the win and set up a round two encounter with Michael van Gerwen. During a different match, Andrew Gilding defeated Robert Owen following a tense final set in his first World Championship appearance in six years. Meanwhile, Leonard Gates, Danny Jansen, Danny van Trijp, & David Cameron all won on their debuts on Monday, and all four advanced to round two at Alexandra Palace.

Tuesday night sees the continuation of the Cazoo World Championship with Fallon Sherrock, the champion of the Women’s World Matchplay, taking on Ricky Evans while five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld plays Ryan Meikle.
