2022-23 World Darts Championship: Michael van Gerwen vs Michael Smith final results, score, & match summary
At the championship match of 2022-23 PC World Darts Championship, Michael Smith scored a nine-dart finish in the third leg of the second set, enroute to capturing an all-time classic. During the game, Smith overcame a deficit of 3-2 by winning four straight sets to take the lead at 6-3 before sealing a historic victory that propelled him to the top of the global rankings for the first time.
Following this defeat, Van Gerwen has now settled as the runner-up of this showpiece event for the third time. Unfortunately, this loss meant that Michael van Gerwen will stay at the third-place on Order of Merit. Smith finished the match with an amazing twenty-two 180s along with an average of 100.87, while his Dutch opponent recorded an average of 99.58 including 15 maximums. With this victory, Smith has now avenged his 2019 World Darts Championship final loss against Michael van Gerwen.
