Neeraj Chopra, who made India proud by capturing both world and Olympic titles in the javelin throw, is one of the eleven nominees for the prestigious 202Worldld Athlete of the Year award.

According to the international governing body of the sport, the nominees highlight the athletes’ exceptional results from the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, other one-day meeting circuits, Label road races, and other international competitions.
Neeraj will face competitors including world champions in the 100 and 200 metres, Noah Lyles, and world champions in the shot throw and pole vault, Ryan Crouser and Mondo Duplantis. Neeraj made history by throwing a remarkable 88.17 metres to become the first Indian to win gold at the World Athletics Championships. He was able to finish the Olympic and World Championship gold set thanks to his gold medal in Budapest.
The winners will be revealed on December 11 on World Athletics social media platforms following a three-way voting process to choose the finalists. The World Athletics Council, the World Athletics Council, and the general public will all cast votes. Till October 28, voting will remain available until midnight for the World Athletes of the Year. World Athletics will reveal the finalists on November 13 and 14. There are five ladies and five men in the finals.
Every nominee has a unique image that has been shared on social media this week. By ‘liking’ the images on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, or by retweeting them on X, users can cast votes.
All of these votes will add up to the ultimate outcome, with the World Athletics Council’s vote having a 50% weight and the World Athletics Council’s and the public’s votes each having a 25% weight.
