Ahead of the tournament, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule with the first match featuring Gujarat Giants vs Mumbai Indians.

The inaugural edition of the WPL 2023 will feature five teams – the Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriorz
WPL 2023 Auction
Ahead of the start of the WPL 2023, the official auction took place on 13 February 2023. Following the intense one-day auction, Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana ended up being the most expensive player after Royal Challengers Bangalore bought her for ₹3.40 Crore. Meanwhile, the Mumbai Indians bought India Captain Harmanpreet Kaur for ₹1.80 Crore.
Among the foreign players, Australia all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner and England all-rounder Natalie Sciver-Brunt were the most expensive players. Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians bought the two players respectively for ₹3.20 Crore.
On the other hand, India U-19 captain Shafali Verma was the most expensive player among the India U-19 stars. Delhi Capitals bought Shafali Verma for ₹2 Crore.
WPL 2023 format
The WPL 2023 will begin its inaugural edition with five teams playing a total of 20 league games. The teams will then progress to two playoff fixtures. The tournament will take place over a 23-day window.
The league stage will begin with four double headers with the first match starting at around 3:30 PM IST. Gujarat Giants will take on Mumbai Indians in the opening fixture on March 4. It will take place at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
All evening matches of the tournament are scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM IST. The tournament will feature a total of 11 matches palyed across the DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
The last game of the league stage will take place on 21st March at the Brabourne Stadium, CCI between the UP Warriorz and Delhi Capitals. One the league stage ends, the Eliminator rounds will take place at the DY Patil Stadium on 24th March. Meanwhile, the final match of the Women’s Premier League 2023 take place at the Brabourne Stadium on 26th March.
