All you need to know about the WPL 2023 franchises’ owners, teams’ names, and other information about the inaugural league 

Just like the men’s IPL edition, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to come up with the same league dubbed WPL for women’s cricket. The league will feature the women cricketers on the planet coming under one roof and will battle out to crown with the inaugural edition champions.

The primary reason for hosting such a league is to promote women’s cricket and provide an opportunity for the rising young talents in women’s cricket around the globe to showcase their abilities. The league will mark it as the most expensive women’s cricket league and also the second most lucrative cricket league in India, after IPL.

On January 25, BCCI announced the list of teams along with their owners. This article will look at the WPL 2023 teams as well as their owner names and bidding price as well.

WPL 2023 Teams/Owners

The WPL 2023 will feature five teams. Teams are Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore while Ahmedabad and Lucknow will have their team names soon. In total, seventeen entities were part of the bidding process for the five teams. Out of seventeen, the entities with the highest bid successfully purchased the five franchises of the league. Three of the names of the entities also have their teams in the IPL.

Here’s a list of each WPL franchise owner.

#1. Ahmedabad 

Owner: Adani Sportsline Private Limited, a group owned by the richest man in India, Gautam Adani is the highest bidder of the WPL.

Bidding price: INR 1289 crores.

#2. Mumbai Indians

Owner: IndiaWin Sports Private Limited, a group owned by the Ambani family is the second highest bidder of the WPL.

Bidding price: INR 912.99 crores.

#3. Royal Challengers Bangalore

Owner: Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited, a subsidiary group of United Spirits is the third highest bidder of the WPL.

Bidding price: INR 901 crores.

#4. Delhi

Owner: JSW GMR Cricket Private Limited, owns various franchises in various other sports as well, and is the fourth highest bidder of the WPL.

Bidding price: INR 810 crores.

#5. Lucknow

Owner: Capri Global Holdings Private Limited.

Bidding price: INR 757 crores.

After compiling the total bid valuation, BCCI made INR 4669.99 crores from the sale.
