The WPL 2023 will mark its inaugural edition and is all set to be loaded with women’s cricket stars from around the world. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday (January 25) announced the list of the owners of each franchise in the league. The richest man in India, Gautam Adani was the highest bidder who bought the Ahmedabad franchise for whopping INR 1289 crores.

WPL 2023 auction details

The WPL 2023 player auction is expected to take place in the first week of February. Each team will get a purse of INR 12 crores.

The WPL’s official broadcaster is Viacom 18, who acquired INR 951 crores for the rights till 2027. In India, Viacom-owned channel Sports 18 will broadcast the auction live, while Jio Cinema will stream it live. Fans in other nations may watch the WPL on the networks listed below.

League format/venues

Each team can have 15 to 18 players on its roster. Teams are allowed to have up to five international players on their team. The WPL will be contested in a round-robin format, with each club playing five round-robin games.  All of the league’s games will be held in Mumbai. The BCCI, however, has not formally announced that the event would be hosted at a single location because it may be changed in the future.
